Sibiu is the
’capital’ of the Saxon region and was one of the biggest and wealthiest
medieval cities in Transylvania.
well-preserved medieval old town, the Saxon Lutheran Church built in the
14th century as well as the Brukenthal palace displaying a rich art
collection make Sibiu one of Transylvania’s most visited tourist
cultural importance is reflected also by its status of Europe’s
Cultural Capital for the year 2007 (jointly with Luxemburg, from
where the Saxons inhabiting Sibiu during the Middle Age originated).
